It's all we can ask for, and what we rarely get. I held my foot out on the train tacks until it got squished. The bones were pulverized and a man wearing a dark trilby cap and pinstriped suit leapt from the bushes. He kept his eyes low and offered me 16,000 dollars for a look at the massacred foot under my shoe. I refused out of pride. Later that year I saw a man pass by with the same hat. By the time I looked back he was already gone.
